RELEASE NOTES & KNOWN ISSUES
ProDiscover® 7.2.0.0 contains the following fixes and new features:
1. Added feature to streamline extraction of all files changed or added in a Volume Shadow Copy Snapshot into an LFC.
2. Added support for the new Ex01 Image format.
3. Corrected Case-sensitive sorting of the fields of Compare Volume Results dialog.
4. Corrected Case-sensitive sorting of fields of Content Search results property page.
5. Fixed an issue where UI hangs while recovering deleted files in some NTFS volumes.
Notes:
ProDiscover should always be installed and run as an administrator. When using Windows 7/Vista even when logged on as an administrator in Windows 7 UAC (on or off) requires that you mark the application (ProDiscoverIR.exe) with "Run this program as an administrator". You can get to this setting via right-click over ProDiscoverIR.exe | properties | Compatibility tab. Installing the ProDiscover Perl modules may require running the InstallProScript.bat installation script from the command line as an administrator.
When pushing the remote agent to Windows 7 systems, users should choose a folder other than the %SYSTEM32% location. It is recommended to use the Program Files folder or to create an absolute path of choice.
ProDiscover’s Volume Shadow Copy support uses a bottom-up reassembly approach to mount, display, and image the VSC. For users that that do not desire to use the bottom-up approach ProDiscover also offers the ability to use the MS API approach to VSC analysis by making a registry change on the ProDiscover console workstation. To switch modes in Windows Vista/XP, the user enters the following name value pair as REG_SZ to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Technology Pathways\ProDiscover\Settings registry key:
"VSRawAnalysis" (If the value is 0, then VSSAdmin logic is used. If it is 1 (the default), raw logic is used.)
For Windows 7 64 bit systems the same name value pair will be created in the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Technology Pathways\ProDiscover\Settings
Note that this setting is helpful if the user needs to speed up the access of the VSC on a remote system with a slower network link.
In cases where a disk (greater than 127 GB) that has NOT been partitioned is added to a Windows based workstation, the workstation will not show the true size of the disk. To access disks larger than 127 GB with no partition a new name value pair must be created in the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlset\Services\atapi\Parameters
In this key create the new name value pair "EnableBigLba" (DWORD key) and set the value to 1.
After restart, Windows and ProDiscover will report the disk size correctly. This registry entry can only be made to Windows 2000 systems with Service Pack 3 or above.
Not all features found in the ProDiscover are available across all file systems and platforms due to each systems design and implementation.
PDServer includes the ability to dynamically load the PARemove driver for remote detection, imaging and analysis of the Hardware Protected Area on Windows 2000 and Windows XP platforms. Dynamic loading of device drivers is NOT available in the Windows 98SE platform do to platform architecture. For more information on the Hardware Protected Area see the Advanced Tips and Tricks section of the ProDiscover® help file.
While ProDiscover® is designed to work well with Windows 2000 Professional, Vista, and Windows 7; internal tests show ProDiscover® performing best when running on Windows XP Professional and Windows 7.
In rare cases the component ProDiscover® uses for calendaring in MAC time search functions will not register with the system during install. If users are unable to launch the calendar component by clicking on the “….” Button in search please run “regsvr32 mscal.ocx” from the command prompt. This calendaring component does not function on Windows XP platforms. Please manually enter the dates when using Windows XP.
Logical NOT operator is not available from Cluster Search.
Process name and Process id is not yet available in Open/connected ports feature on Windows 2000.
To use the Mac OSX Remote Agent simply copy the PDServer file to CD, Thumbdrive, or remote Mac OSX system, open a terminal session and execute the PDServer file. Note that even when logged in as an administrator on the Mac OSX system PDServer must be run using SUDO example “SUDO <PATH_TO_PDServer>\PDServer”. If run without SUDO only externally mounted USB devices will be available to ProDiscover.
